I have noticed that in our press coverage of our latest announcement that there are thoughts out there that we have pivoted, and that is not the case. What has changed is that we have expanded our capabilities beyond just Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service with HyperCloud Analytics and the ability to optimize workloads across multiple clouds among other things. If we were to stay with the Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service label, this would vastly under-represent our capabilities in public and private clouds.
We have also expanded our offering portfolio which required an expansion of message to ensure we are correctly positioning HyperGrid in the market.
What is Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service?
Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service is a model to consume IT within the four walls of your datacenter like a public cloud. It includes the ability to automate IT operations and modernize applications. Additionally, the ability to leverage application blueprints for application creation and deployment across multiple public clouds.
If we look at our current customer and MSP journey to achieving Software-Defined Cloud, you can see that Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service covers the first three phases of the journey and starts to inch up into building modern applications. There is significant value in the Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service strategy and vision. However, as we spoke to our customers, we realized that more was needed and we really needed to expand our capabilities, enabling data-driven decisions with analytics among other features. These powerful features really required an expansion of our messaging and positioning.
Software-Defined Cloud: Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service 2.0
With Software-Defined Cloud, we have expanded the journey to fully enable the configuration and deployment of applications from blueprints, with full governance and control, to multiple public and private clouds. Support for Kubernetes orchestration for Docker containers as well as bare-metal cloud for container further expands IT’s capabilities and options when creating applications.
Additionally, the inclusion of HyperCloud Analytics greatly reduces the guesswork in terms of application placement. IT and MSPs no longer have to manually evaluate many, many cloud service offerings across several cloud providers and then make decisions based on month old data. HyperCloud Analytics leverages public cloud APIs to obtain a full catalog of cloud service offerings, which is updated constantly. IT and MSPs are now making workload-placement decisions based on the most up-to-date information. The user simply needs to input the compliance and performance requirements of the workload, and HyperCloud will provide several options with several different prices. The user can then decide which performance/compliance/price combination best meets their needs. It is clear to see the overlap between Enterprise Cloud-as-a-Service and Software-Defined Cloud.
