Gridstore VDI Solution Trumps The Competition
Recent Poll Respondents Decry Current Defacto Leader as Too Expensive & Difficult to Implement
Mountain View, Calif. – March 29, 2016, Gridstore™ the leader in HyperConverged all flash infrastructure today announced that their HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) solution, the software-centric architecture that integrates computing, storage, networking and virtualization resources in a single hardware appliance, outstrips the competition when delivering on the promise of a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployment. Among the recent poll respondents that had deployed VDI already with one of the current market leader’s solutions, 61% of them claimed that that VDI solution was too expensive, and half the sample stated it performed poorly, and 41% claimed it was too difficult to implement.
Gridstore HyperConverged Infrastructure delivers VDI building blocks of compute, storage, and storage networking, with sub-millisecond latency per I/O to deliver a better user experience than a local PC. The Gridstore HCI is simple to deploy and reduces management time and effort. It reduces infrastructure by 75% and price- per-VM by 65% over converged infrastructures.
As part of the recently conducted research into the VDI market to identify the maturity of the sector and the challenges facing IT managers when implementing and running a VDI the Gridstore poll findings included:
• Just under a third of the sample of 178 IT directors sampled (30%) are already deploying VDI. Another 14% reported running VDI but with some problems
• 45 % of the sample stated that while they are not yet running VDI, they are already planning to or thinking about it
• 45% of those who were running VDI were doing so across an estate of less than 200 users. The 200-500-seat sector was represented by 19%, while the 501 to 2500 made up 21%. Finally the 2500 plus seat market was represented by 14%
“Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is the practice of hosting a desktop operating system within a virtual machine running on a centralized server. But for some time the promise of VDI has not matched the reality for many,” said Kelly Murphy, CTO and Founder, Gridstore. “However, Gridstore HCI enables virtual desktops to be implemented for far less than the cost of physical PCs. Gridstore HCI is the perfect solutions for VDI in that it has the potential to simplify deployments and make it easier to allocate resources, as there are fewer components required for a rollout.”
Gridstore recently announced a major initiative with Unidesk, the inventor of the groundbreaking Windows application delivery technology called layering, which extends Remote Desktop Services (RDS) with enterprise-class image and application management, persistent personalization, provisioning, and collection management capabilities.
The unified Gridstore/Unidesk solution provides an optimized platform and framework that delivers a true turnkey VDI experience. Unidesk’s application layering and efficient management capabilities combined with Gridstore’s price and performance promotes rapid adoption by ensuring the ultimate virtual desktop experience.
“With a solid foundation of affordable all-flash storage with inline erasure encoding in the Gridstore HCA, every VDI deployment immediately benefits from high I/O operations per second (IOPS) with sub-millisecond latency. Coupled with high performance software from Unidesk and Microsoft, VDI users will experience the performance and responsiveness of an All-Flash Desktop,” added Kelly. “This VDI solution, with Unidesk image management and application delivery capabilities, fits any IT budget, supporting from 100 desktops to tens of thousands in a true pay-as-you-scale model. This is the economics breakthrough the market has been waiting for.”
