2018: A Year in Review

We enable organizations to Cloud. Smarter. Helping businesses intelligently navigate the cloud and its many complexities has been our mission since we were founded in 2016. As a business, we’re still young, but we’ve been moving at a rapid pace. The year 2018 has seen such powerful forward momentum for us and our impact in the industry, that we wanted to reflect back on where we’ve been as the excitement builds for where we’re going.

Updating Our Platform

By far, the most significant announcements for us focused on updates to our Intelligent Cloud Management Platform HyperCloud. Earlier this year, we unveiled a Software-Defined Cloud (SDC) strategy for HyperCloud that sought to empower customers to accelerate their cloud journey by adopting intelligent workload management across private and public clouds. This embodied our mission to help customers Cloud. Smarter. and embrace a multi-cloud architecture for their business needs by minimizing the traditional barriers to cloud adoption, such as integration, learning and complex management. Through HyperCloud Analytics, customers could take advantage of capabilities, including:

  • Cloud Migration planning with automated discovery and right-sizing with accurate cost forecasts
  • Multi-tier workload modeling using blueprints for agile development and automation
  • Real-time cloud cost analysis and optimization for cost management
  • Detailed governance dashboards for real-time monitoring of resource compliance and remediation

We didn’t stop there, though. We are continuously working to improve our Platform. That’s why, in November, we announced HyperCloud 6.0. The new release provides support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda, Google Kubernetes and Microsoft Azure Cloud Solution Provider Program. Additional features include DR Planning, automated remediation, HIPAA and PCI compliance monitoring, and enhanced automation. This next generation of our Platform allows organizations of all sizes to plan, migrate, optimize, manage, and scale their cloud operations.

Expanding Our Reach

In addition to expanding Platform capabilities, we also looked to extend support to a wider customer base. Users on the AWS Marketplace and VMware Solutions Exchange will now find HyperCloud available and ready to leverage in their cloud journey.

Our HyperCloud Analytics module is a purpose-built version for AWS users and is offered in a unique no contract, pay-as-you-go model. It allows businesses to:

  • More easily and accurately plan for the cloud
  • Automate and accelerate their cloud adoption or migration to AWS or VMware Cloud on AWS
  • Keep track of real-time cloud usage and leverage proactive savings recommendations based on historic cloud usage, benchmarked AWS instance data and Reserved Instance contracts, enabling users to model applications to choose the best instance to meet requirements while optimizing performance and costs
  • Monitor cloud usage in real-time to minimize security threats and ensure organizational compliance based on AWS best practices

We’re also enabling customers of VMware Cloud on AWS to execute robust cloud migration projects, continuously optimize cloud consumption, automate security and compliance and scale cloud operations to support business needs.

Another way we expanded our reach was through industry events. This year, we had the opportunity to attend some of the biggest shows in the cloud space hosted by some of the most well-known players that are changing the game.

Our attendance at VMworld back in August, gave us the opportunity to connect with VMware users who are looking to optimize and scale their existing infrastructure or see if and how they should be migrating to cloud. We provided them with demos of HyperCloud and were able to dig a bit deeper into the challenges they faced and how we can help.

At AWS re:Invent in November, we were able to go above and beyond the demo at our booth by donating $1 for every attendee who stopped by to the Society for Science & the Public. This nonprofit membership organization is a champion for science and is dedicated to expanding scientific literacy, effective STEM education and scientific research. It was also rewarding to see so many new AWS services announced at the event that aligned nicely with our own offerings on our Platform. This truly underscored the need for intelligent cloud management solutions.

Boosting Efforts with Funding

The growth and development we’ve seen over the past year has been fueled by key investors, including Acero Capital, Atlantic Bridge Capital, HighBar Partners and others. Their contributions, which total $40 million split into two rounds of funding – $15 million and $25 million – have been used primarily to invest in growing Go-To-Market activities to meet increased demand across our Enterprise and MSP customer bases, drive product development and add industry-first features to HyperCloud and expand the global reach for the Platform.

Receiving Third-party Recognition

Our ability to dramatically differentiate our solution from that of our competitors, which primarily focus on narrower approaches, also resulted in recognition from outside sources. We were thrilled to be identified as one of CRN Top 10 Cloud Computing Startups for 2018; and HyperCloud was rated one of the top three solutions based on the depth of its capabilities by Forrester in the Q2 2018 Hybrid Cloud Management Wave Report.

The progress we’ve made since our founding just a few short years ago is a testament to the good work our team has done. There is more to come in the New Year. For now, we want to thank those have continued to support intelligent cloud management. Let’s all Cloud. Smarter. in 2019!

Manoj Nair joins HyperGrid from HPE where he was GM and VP of Product Management for Converged Infrastructure. His team was responsible for driving the Product Strategy and Roadmap across all elements of the Converged Portfolio & Infrastructure Management. Prior to HPE, Manoj was SVP leading strategy and R&D for the Public Cloud solutions at EMC. This was an incubation team working across the EMC federation of companies. Previously, Manoj was SVP & GM at RSA – responsible for IAM & Authentication product lines. Previously he led R&D and Product Management for RSA Security Management portfolio. Manoj also led R&D for EMC's internal incubation project, EMC Infoscape, as well as the architecture of the EMC PowerPath product family. Manoj has also held development and research positions at Data General, Novell and US NSF funded Research Labs. He is also the holder of over a dozen patents granted by USPTO in Systems Software, File systems, Information Management and Security. Manoj holds a M.S. in Computer Science from Clemson University.
